The 3rd of Rajab 1447 A.H. marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali al-Hadi (p)

Beyond Sight, Beyond Thought, Yet So Near

How do we speak about God when our words, senses, and imagination are all limited? Imam Ali al-Hadi (p) offers us a reminder that the Divine cannot be captured by human description, confined by human thought, or reached by human perception.

He says, “Indeed, God cannot be described except by what He has described Himself, and how can He be described while the senses cannot comprehend Him, illusions cannot reach Him, what comes to mind cannot limit Him, and eyes cannot encompass Him? He is far in His nearness, and close in His farness” (Tuhaf al-‘Uqul, p. 510).

1. God Is Beyond the Limits of Human Perception

Imam al-Hadi (p) teaches that our senses, sight, hearing, and touch, are created tools. They allow us to navigate the physical world, but they cannot grasp the Creator.

The senses cannot comprehend Him.
Nothing we see or touch can represent Him.

Illusions cannot reach Him.
Imagination cannot form a picture of Him.

Thought cannot limit Him.
Any idea we have of God is already too small.

Eyes cannot encompass Him.
He is not an object to be observed.

This It frees us from reducing God to our assumptions and allows us to seek Him as He truly is.

2. Only God Describes God

This is why the Imam begins with, “God cannot be described except by what He has described Himself.”

Our words are shadows; His words are truth.
The Quran becomes the only safe language for speaking about the Divine, not to limit Him, but to guide us toward Him.

When God calls Himself “The Most Merciful, The Light, The All-Knowing, The Subtle, The Near,” He is revealing Himself in a way that human beings can understand, without confining His essence.

3. “Far in His Nearness, and Close in His Farness”

This beautiful paradox captures the mystery of God:

He is far because no mind can grasp Him.

He is near because He is closer to us than our jugular vein.

He is utterly beyond creation, yet deeply present in every breath, every heartbeat, every moment of turning toward Him.

We cannot imagine Him, but we can feel His nearness in guidance, mercy, and answered prayers.

A Wound That Time Could Not Heal

On the night that Lady Fatimah (p) was buried, a silence settled over Medina, one filled with grief, injustice, and the weight of unspoken truth. In that darkness, Imam Ali (p) stood beside her grave and spoke words that continue to pierce the hearts of believers fourteen centuries later:

“O Messenger of God!.. Your trust has been returned and Al-Zahra has been wronged.
My sorrow is eternal, and my nights are sleepless.
It is a wound that cannot be healed… Your daughter will inform you of the alliance against me and the usurpation of her rights…She is buried secretly under God’s eyes.”
(Al-Tusi, Al-Amali, p. 109)

Lady Fatimah (p) was not only the beloved daughter of the Prophet (pbuh&hp), she was the final trust he left in Imam Ali’s care. When Imam Ali (p) said, “Your trust has been returned,” it was an admission that the world had failed her. Despite her unmatched status in Islam, she was buried quietly at night, away from the eyes of the community.

When Imam Ali says,“My sorrow is eternal, and my nights are sleepless,” he shows us the depth of his emotional and heartbreak. His sadness was not simply that of a husband mourning his wife; it was a grief tied to the wider injustice inflicted upon the Prophet’s household.

One of the most moving parts of Imam Ali’s words is his certainty that Lady Fatimah (p) will one day speak for herself about the injustices she endured. The truth will be revealed before God and the Prophet (pbuh&hp) in a place where no denial can silence her. Her quiet nighttime burial was not a sign of her insignificance, but a testament to how deeply she was wronged.

May remembering her soften our hearts, strengthen our faith, and deepen our love for the Prophet’s family.

Wednesday, November 5, 2025, is the 13th of Jumada al-Ula, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (p) according to the second narration

The Light That Reached the Heavens

Among the many names of Lady Fatimah (p), one shines with special radiance: al-Zahra, the Luminous One. When Imam al-Sadiq (p) was asked about this title, he replied, “Because when she stood on her prayer mat, her light would shine for the people of heaven just as the light of the stars would shine for the people of the Earth” [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 43, p. 12]. The light of Lady Fatimah (p) was so pure, so radiant, so sincere, that even the dwellers of heaven were illuminated by it.

The Light of Worship

Lady Fatimah (p) lived only a short life in this world. But in that time, she became the embodiment of worship, modesty, truth, justice, and unwavering devotion to God. Her connection with God pierced through the layers of this world and reached the heavens. Her worship was so sincere, so full of love for God, that it became a source of light in spiritual sense.

Even with the weight of the world on her shoulders, Lady Fatimah (p) showed that deep, sincere worship can still shine through. She reminds us that no matter how short our time or how heavy our burdens, turning to God with sincerity can illuminate even our darkest moments.

As we mark her death anniversary, let us not merely recall her pain—let us carry her light. Let our homes echo with her remembrance. Let our daughters see in her a role model that this world could never dim.

Monday, September 1, 2025, is the 8th of Rabi al-Awwal, 1447 A.H., which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Askari (p).

When Work Blinds the Soul

We live in a world that constantly pushes us to do more, earn more, and achieve more. From the moment we wake up, our minds are flooded with tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities. It is easy to become so consumed with chasing a livelihood that we forget the very purpose for which we were created.

It is in this context that the words of Imam Hasan al-Askari (p) strike so deeply, “Do not let a guaranteed sustenance occupy you from an incumbent act” [Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 489].

The Illusion of Control

Our sustenance is already written. The food we eat, the money we earn, the shelter we find — all of it has been decreed by God. Yet, many of us live as though it will slip away unless we chase it endlessly. We rise early, stay late, and push ourselves harder in the pursuit of what is already guaranteed.

But in the process, something far more precious is neglected. The prayer gets delayed. The Qur’an remains unopened. The heart, eager to remember God, becomes weighed down by constant distractions. What is promised becomes the very thing that robs us of what is eternal.

The Imam’s Reminder

Imam al-Askari’s words are not a condemnation of work. Islam encourages effort, earning, and providing for one’s family. But the danger lies in allowing livelihood to overshadow our obligations to God. When the temporary replaces the eternal, we begin to trade away what truly matters.

This is why the Imam’s reminder strikes so deeply: sustenance is already secured, but the soul’s salvation depends on our actions.

The Marks of Neglect

Each time we abandon a prayer or postpone a duty, the soul bears the weight of that neglect. At first, it feels small, hardly noticeable. But gradually, the light of the heart dims. What was once a vibrant connection with God becomes clouded, heavy, and distant.

These moments are not just lapses in discipline. They are wounds upon the soul. And yet, they also serve as gentle warnings, urging us to realign before the distance becomes too great.

What Truly Lasts

The truth is simple. Our jobs will not follow us into the grave. Our wealth, no matter how much we gather, will not stand beside us on the Day of Judgment. What will remain are our deeds, the prayers offered, the acts of obedience fulfilled, the moments we remembered God when the world tried to pull us away.

This is what truly lasts. This is what defines our eternity.

A Call to Trust

The Imam’s words invite us to pause and reflect: Have I allowed the pursuit of sustenance to distract me from my duties to God? If so, the path back is always open.

God never forgets. He never withholds. He never abandons His servant. Our provision is safe with Him, but our souls depend on the choices we make today.

So let us return to Him. Let us trust in His promise. Let us anchor our hearts in prayer and let our souls be fed before our bodies. For in His care, we find not only sustenance but also peace.

When a ‘Small Sin’ Breaks a Great Bond

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, once said, “O Abu Dharr! Do not look at the smallness of the sin; rather, consider the One whom you have disobeyed.”
[Al-Tabrasi, Makarim al-Akhlaq, p. 459-471]

This short yet powerful saying changes how we see our actions. Often, we excuse ourselves by saying, “It is only a small mistake.” We convince ourselves that one careless glance, one hurtful word, or one moment of neglect does not matter. Yet the Messenger of God reminds us that sin is never about size. It is about the greatness of the One we turn away from when we commit it.

The Illusion of Small Sins

A single drop of poison is small, yet it can still harm the body. In the same way, even what we call a minor sin leaves a trace upon the soul. It may not be visible to others, but deep within, it chips away at our closeness to God. A careless action today can grow into a habit tomorrow, and habits shape the direction of our lives.

Who Are We Disobeying?

When we sin, we are not simply breaking a rule. We are turning our backs on the One who created us, who sustains us, who knows our every need and hears every whisper of our hearts. Imagine disobeying someone who has given you everything—your breath, your health, your family, your future. The action may feel light, but its true weight lies in Whom it is directed against.

The Quiet Consequences

The effects of sin are often subtle. A lie may weaken our trust in God. An unkind word may darken our heart. Slowly, the sweetness of prayer fades. Supplication feels heavy on the tongue. The heart becomes restless. This is not punishment. It is the natural effect of covering the soul with layers of disobedience, until it no longer shines with the light of remembrance.

The Hope of Returning

The beauty of God’s mercy is that it is never too late to return. No matter how heavy the burden of sin may feel, His door is always open. One sincere tear can wash away years of mistakes. One heartfelt prayer of repentance can polish the heart until it gleams again. God loves the servant who returns to Him, and He promises to forgive, to heal, and to draw that soul near once more.

A Moment of Reflection

Pause for a moment. Reflect on the actions you may have brushed aside as “small.” Ask yourself: Am I willing to turn my back on the One who has never turned His back on me? Allow this thought to soften your heart and lead you to repentance.

The true seriousness of sin lies not in its size, but in the Majesty of the One we disobey. And the true hope lies in knowing that the One we disobey is also the Most Merciful, the Most Loving, always awaiting our return.

Monday, August 11th, 2025, is the 17th of Safar which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Rida (p).

The Door to Paradise May Be in Your Home

From the very first moment of our lives, our parents have carried us in ways we may never fully understand. They gave up their comfort for ours, lost sleep to watch over us, and loved us before we could even comprehend love. Their presence in our lives is not just a blessing, it is a sacred trust.

In Islam, kindness to parents is not simply a recommendation. It is a command from Allah, an act of worship that brings us closer to Him. This duty does not fade with time, distance, or even differences in belief.

The Imam’s Guidance: Kindness Without Exception

Imam al‑Rida (p) said: “Being kind to parents is obligatory, even if they are polytheists, but should not be obeyed if in it is disobedience to the Creator” [Bihar al‑Anwar, vol. 10, p. 356].

The right of our parents to our kindness is not conditional. Whether they share our faith or not, whether they understand our path or question it, our responsibility is to treat them with respect, mercy, and love.

Kindness Without Conditions

Our parents’ shortcomings or mistakes do not erase the sacrifices they made. Islam calls us to honor them in speech, action, and prayer. Speaking gently, offering help, and showing gratitude are forms of worship that can open the gates of Paradise.

Loving Them Without Disobeying Him

While kindness is always owed, our ultimate obedience belongs to Allah. If parents ask for something that goes against His commands, we must politely refrain. Yet even in disagreement, our tone, manners, and care should remain rooted in love.

A Prayer Your Parents Deserve

Pray for them, whether they are with you now or have returned to Allah, that He grants them mercy and rewards every sacrifice, sleepless night, and act of love they gave you. In honoring them, you honor the One who created you both.

The Rule That Could Change Every Relationship

Imam Hassan is reported to have said, “Associate with people in the same way you would like them to associate with you” [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 75, p. 116].

In today’s world, where relationships are often transactional and driven by how others treat us, this short yet powerful statement by Imam Hassan (p) offers a refreshing perspective, one that has the potential to reshape every human interaction.

Imam Hassan (p) gives us a rule to live by, Treat others how you wish to be treated. Though simple in words, its implications are profound.

Most of us mirror the energy we receive. If someone is kind, we’re kind. If they’re distant, we pull away. But this reactive approach often leads to misunderstandings, hurt, and broken connections. Imam Hassan (p) encourages us to flip the script: lead with principle, not reaction.

This hadith teaches us to engage with people based on our values and not their behavior. It calls for intentionality, to extend compassion when it’s hard, to listen deeply, and to forgive even when pride resists. Because ultimately, how we treat others reflects our character, not theirs.

This is especially relevant for young people navigating friendships, families, or even online interactions. In a digital age where so much communication is fast, surface-level, or reactive, embodying this prophetic wisdom can anchor us in sincerity and humility.

So next time you’re unsure how to respond to someone, return to Imam Hassan’s advice. Let your words and actions be a reflection of what you’d hope to receive. Because this one rule might just change everything.

Trusting the Choice You Didn’t Make

Life doesn’t always go the way we plan. A job falls through. A prayer feels delayed. A door we were sure would open… doesn’t.

But Imam Zayn al-Abidin (p) gives us a powerful reminder that, “Whoever relies on the good choice of God, the Glorious and Exalted, will not wish for anything other than the state which God has chosen for them” [Mustadrak Safinat al-Bihar, vol. 8, p. 28].

This hadith teaches us that when you really trust God, you stop constantly questioning your path. You stop wishing for a different outcome. You find peace in knowing that God’s choice, even if it’s harder, is wiser than your own. Because maybe the delay is a shield. Maybe the heartbreak is a detour to something better.
And maybe this version of your life, the one you’re in right now, is exactly where you’re meant to be.

Let our heart rest in the One who never chooses anything except with perfect wisdom and endless mercy.

The Tongue Is a Weapon

In an age where a single comment can go viral in seconds, and a thoughtless word can spark outrage or pain, the wisdom of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p) feels strikingly prophetic. He once said, “The weapon of the wicked person is foul language” [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 75, p. 185]. This is reminder that speech is not neutral. It carries the power to either heal or harm.

When Imam al-Baqir (p) describes foul language as the “weapon of the wicked,” he’s not just condemning vulgarity — he’s exposing a deeper spiritual truth: that harsh words are often used as tools of harm, especially by those who lack moral strength or intellectual integrity. Just as a weapon inflicts physical harm, foul language wounds the soul. It breaks hearts, breeds resentment, and reflects inner corruption. Imam al-Baqir(p) is warning us that the tongue can be a tool of justice or a sword of injustice.

This hadith encourages us to reflect on how we use our words—not just in public, but also in private, online, and during moments of frustration. Foul language is not only about profanity. It includes sarcasm meant to hurt, harsh criticism, backbiting, and even passive-aggressive “honesty.” Imam al-Baqir (p) exposes a difficult truth: people who lean on such speech often do so out of weakness, not strength. In honor of his martyrdom, we can embody his teachings by practicing restraint when emotions rise, choosing words that heal rather than harm, modeling respectful speech for our children, and incorporating verbal discipline into our spiritual routine—just as we do with prayer.
