The 2nd of Rajab 1447 A.H. marks the birth anniversary of Imam Ali al-Hadi (p).

When Service Becomes Light

On the Day of Judgment, a day when every soul stands exposed and every deed is unveiled, Imam Ali al-Hadi (p) describes a group of people who will appear unlike anyone else. Their presence will radiate, and their faces will shine. Who are they?

He says, “The scholars of our followers, who stand for the weak among our lovers and the people of our allegiance, will come on the Day of Judgment with lights shining forth from their crowns” (Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 2, p. 6). This hadith is a reminder of the responsibility that comes with knowledge.

1. The Weight of Knowledge in Islam

In Islam, knowledge is never meant to be stored. It is meant to be lived, taught, and used to uplift others. Imam al-Hadi (p) narrows the definition of a “scholar” in a profound way: a true scholar is not one who simply knows, but one who stands for the weak, advocates for them, guides them, and carries their burdens with compassion. Knowledge becomes light only when it becomes service.

2. Who Are the Weak?

The Imam is speaking about:

Those who are vulnerable

Those who are confused or struggling in their faith

Those who lack access to guidance

Those who face hardship, isolation, or oppression

And he honors those who step forward to support them. This includes teachers, speakers, volunteers, counselors, community leaders, mentors, and even caring friends who share guidance sincerely and gently. Anyone who becomes a source of strength for someone spiritually weaker than themselves receives this divine promise.

3. Crowns of Light: What Does It Mean?

On a day described as dark, terrifying, and overwhelming, these individuals will shine.

Light in Islamic tradition is the symbol of:

Divine pleasure

Purity of intention

Acceptance of deeds

Honor from God

The radiance of guidance

The crown, normally a symbol of worldly power, is redefined here as a symbol of spiritual royalty. These are people who used their knowledge not to elevate their status, but to elevate others.
And so, God elevates them.

5. Becoming People of Light

Every one of us has someone weaker in faith, younger in age, or newer in understanding who looks to us for guidance and support. When we help them with sincerity, without pride, without belittling them, we step into the path described in this narration. That is the true definition of success.

The 1st of Rajab, 1447 A.H. marks the birth anniversary of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p)

Beyond the Name

In a world where identity is often reduced to labels, affiliations, or appearances, Imam al-Baqir (p) gives us a reminder that being among the true followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (p) is not a title we claim, but it is a character we live.

He says, “By God, those who truly follow our Shia are only those who fear God and obey Him. They are known only for their humility, reverence, maintaining trust, frequent remembrance of God, fasting, prayers, kindness to parents, looking after neighbors, especially the poor, the needy, the indebted, and orphans, speaking the truth, reciting the Quran, refraining their tongues from harming others, except for good. They are trustworthy custodians of their tribes’ affairs” [Al-Ameen, Aʿyan al-Shia, Vol. 1, p. 657]

In this powerful narration, Imam al-Baqir (p) outlines a living, breathing model of faith—one that moves beyond identity into action, sincerity, and service.

1. The Inner Qualities of a True Believer

Imam al-Baqir (p) begins with the roots of genuine faith: fear of God, obedience, humility, reverence, and trustworthiness.

True followers are recognized not by what they claim, but by:

Humility in their conduct

Reverence in their hearts

Reliability in fulfilling trust

Frequent remembrance of God in all states

Commitment to worship through fasting, prayers, and continuous engagement with the Qur’an

These qualities reflect an internal state aligned with God before anything external.

2. The Outward Responsibilities We Owe to Others

Imam al-Baqir (p) then turns our attention to how faith must manifest in our relationships:

Honoring and supporting parents

Caring for neighbors, especially the vulnerable

Serving the poor, the needy, the indebted, and orphans

Speaking truth, even when difficult

Guarding the tongue, causing no harm except through goodness

These actions form the social backbone of true faith. A believer is someone whose presence lifts others, whose honesty encourages trust, and whose kindness protects the weak.

The Imam concludes by describing them as “trustworthy custodians of their tribes’ affairs.” They are the ones people depend on.

3. A Call to Self-Reflection

This hadith is not meant to exclude; it is meant to inspire.
It gently asks each of us:

Do our actions reflect the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (p)?

Do others feel safe, supported, and respected around us?

Is our faith visible not only in worship, but in character?

To be Shia is to embody these virtues, not merely pronounce them.

Friday, December 12th is the 20th of Jumada al-Akhira 1447 A.H., which marks the birth anniversary of Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (p)

A Heart That Prayed for Everyone Else

As we honor the birth of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (p), the radiant daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp), we are reminded not only of her status but of her unmatched character. One of the most touching glimpses into her soul comes from a hadith reported by Imam al-Kadhim (p), “Fatimah (p) used to supplicate for the believers when she prayed, and she did not supplicate for herself. It was said to her, ‘O daughter of the Messenger of Allah, you supplicate for people but not for yourself?’ She replied, ‘First the neighbor, then ourselves’” (Al-Saduq, Ilal al-Sharā’iʿ, vol. 1, p. 182).

1. A Glimpse Into Her Soul

This seemingly simple narration gives us a glimpse into the spiritual nobility and selflessness of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (p). In the stillness of night, during those sacred moments when a person opens their heart to their Lord, most people naturally focus on their own worries, needs, and fears. Yet, Lady Fatimah (p) prioritized others.

Her first thought, even in private supplication, was for the well-being of the believing men and women around her. She carried their burdens before mentioning her own. And when asked why, her response was not just kind, it was a principle, “First the neighbor, then ourselves.”

2. The Spiritual Meaning of “Neighbor”

In Islamic ethics, the term “neighbor” (al-jaar) is not limited to just the people living next door. It includes all those around us, family, community members, coworkers, classmates, and beyond. Anyone whose life touches ours, even slightly, becomes a part of our moral and spiritual responsibility.

Lady Fatimah’s (p) response reflects the Quranic and Prophetic emphasis on honoring the neighbor:

“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and be good to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the distant neighbor…”( 4:36).

She not only embodied this command in her social conduct but also in her private worship. This shows us that concern for others is not separate from spirituality,

3. Prioritizing Others in Prayer

Lady Fatimah (p) teaches us that praying for others is one of the highest forms of compassion. Her example challenges us to shift our focus from ourselves to the wider world:

Who among our friends and neighbors is silently suffering?

Which community is in need of healing or support?

How often do we remember the oppressed, the lonely, or the forgotten in our prayers?

4. An Invitation to Imitate, Not Just Admire

It’s easy to admire Lady Fatimah (p) from a distance. But this hadith invites us to imitate her. Imagine the world we could create if we all took her words seriously:

What if we prayed for our neighbors before asking for ourselves?

What if our duas reflected the pain of Palestine, Yemen, or someone grieving in our own community?

What if our love for Ahl al-Bayt (pbut) was reflected not just in tears, but in compassion-driven action?

As we celebrate the birth of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (p), let us bring her light into our homes, hearts, and communities.

Tuesday, October 28th 2025, is the 5th of Jumada al-Ula, 1447 A.H., and marks the birth anniversary of Sayyida Zaynab bint Ali (p)

The Scholar Who Needed No Teacher

As we mark the birth anniversary of Lady Zaynab (p), we remember a woman whose brilliance, strength, and devotion have inspired generations. Among the most powerful attestations of her status is the statement from her nephew, Imam Zayn al-Abidin (p) when he says, “My aunt, you are, by the grace of God, a scholar who has not been taught [by anyone else] and one who understands without having to be explained” [Al-Ihtijaj, al-Tabarsi, vol. 2, page 31]. In it, he affirms that her knowledge was not merely acquired. It was gifted, innate, and divinely inspired.

A Light of Knowledge and Clarity

Lady Zaynab was not only the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp), but also a pillar of wisdom, eloquence, and divine insight. In an age and culture where women’s voices were often dismissed, Lady Zaynab (p) stood as a beacon of clarity and courage. Her understanding of the Quran, Islamic law, and the events surrounding her came not from formal training, but from a heart illuminated by faith, proximity to the Ahl al-Bayt (p), and divine grace.

The hadith from Imam Zayn al-Abidin (p) recognizes this remarkable reality. She was a scholar whose insight required no explanation, and whose understanding transcended ordinary learning.

Courage in Karbala, Wisdom in Captivity

Nowhere is Lady Zaynab’s divinely gifted understanding more evident than in her role during and after the tragedy of Karbala. On the Day of Ashura, she bore witness to the brutal martyrdom of her brother, Imam Hussain (p), and the suffering of his companions. But her mission did not end there. In the courts of Yazid, it was Lady Zaynab who fearlessly defended the truth, dismantling the narrative of tyranny with her unwavering words. Her sermons remain among the most eloquent expressions of justice and resistance in Islamic history. Her ability to stand firm, speak truth to power, and preserve the legacy of Karbala is a living embodiment of Imam Zayn al-Abidin’s testimony: she saw with the light of God.

May her light continue to guide generations to come, and may we strive to embody even a fraction of her dignity, patience, and understanding.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, is the 8th of Rabi al-Akhir, 1447 A.H., which marks the birth anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Askari (p)

The Quiet Dangers That Break the Soul

In every age, human beings have struggled with two deep desires: the need to talk about others and the thirst for recognition. At first, they seem small, almost harmless, a whispered word about someone’s mistake, a quiet craving for people to notice and admire us. But these subtle habits can carve cracks in the soul, cracks that widen until they lead us far from God.

Imam Hasan al-Askari (p) gave us a warning that pierces across time “Beware of spreading information about people and seeking leadership, for these two call you toward destruction” [Tuhaf al-‘Uqul, p. 487].

The Weight of Words

When we speak about others, whether their faults, their private lives, or their struggles, we may not realize how heavy those words become in the sight of God. What feels like casual conversation can ruin reputations, break trust, and plant seeds of bitterness that last for years. Worse still, every word leaves an imprint on our own hearts. With each careless tongue, our soul grows harder, less sensitive to mercy, and more distant from God.

The Subtle Trap of Recognition

The desire for leadership is not always about titles or power. Sometimes it shows up as the quiet need to be admired, followed, or obeyed. We want our voice louder, our opinion dominant, our presence recognized. But Imam al-Askari (p) reminds us that this thirst for attention does not uplift the spirit. It leads us to destruction. True honor lies in humility before God, not in chasing the fleeting approval of people.

A Mirror for Our Times

Today, in an age of social media, the Imam’s words ring even louder. We scroll through feeds filled with exposed flaws and curated self-images, where gossip spreads like fire and the chase for likes feels endless. How many times do we share something just to be seen? How often do we join in speaking about someone else when silence would have been closer to God?

The Path Back to God

The antidote lies in awareness and restraint. Before our words leave our lips, we must ask: Will this bring me closer to God, or will it break another’s dignity? Before seeking recognition, we must remember that God is the only One whose gaze matters. For in the end, the only recognition that saves is God’s, and the only words that endure are those that heal.

Wednesday, September 10th, is the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal, which marks the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp) and Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (p)

Obeying the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hp) Is Obeying God: Quranic Proof

The Quran does not leave us in doubt about the mission of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp). It shows us that he is not only the Messenger of God but also the teacher, purifier, and guide for all of humanity. Through his example, we learn how to live with faith, justice, and sincerity. Let us look at what the Quran itself says about his role and why obeying him is inseparable from obeying God.

The Quran’s Description of the Prophet’s Role

The Quran defines the responsibilities of the Prophets in many places. It highlights how Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp) was sent as a guide to take people out of misguidance and lead them to the light of truth. His mission is not limited to words or rituals. It is a complete program for transforming lives.

The Practical Quran

God says in the Quran (65:2): “He it is Who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves, who recites to them His verses, purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they were before in clear error.”
This verse shows that the Prophet ﷺ was sent not only to deliver revelation but also to purify hearts and uplift communities. His role was to educate and nurture, making the Quran a lived reality.

Obedience to the Prophet Means Obedience to God

God says in the Quran (4:59), “O you who believe! Obey God and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you…” The Quran makes it clear that obedience to the Prophet (pbuh&hp) is part of faith itself. To follow him is to follow God’s command. His teachings and actions are a reflection of God’s guidance for us.

Come to God’s Revelation and the Prophet

God says in the Quran (4:61), “And when it is said to them, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ you see the hypocrites turning away in aversion.” Here, the Quran places the Prophet’s role side by side with God’s revelation. Both are essential for true guidance. Ignoring either is a sign of turning away from the path of faith.

Conclusion

The Quran gives us a clear picture: the Prophet (pbuh&hp) was sent to teach, purify, and guide. Obeying the Prophet(pbuh&hp) is obeying God. God’s revelation and the Prophet’s example are inseparable. Together, they form the complete path for believers in this world and the next.

When the Imam Waited for the Forgotten

A man from Balkh once accompanied Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Rida (p) on his journey to Khurasan.

One afternoon, the Imam called for food to be served and invited everyone to the table — his companions, travelers, and even the servants, including several men from the Sudan.

The man from Balkh, perhaps influenced by the norms of his time, quietly suggested,
“May I be your sacrifice, would it not be better to set a separate table for these people?” He meant the Black companions. The Imam (p) looked at him — and in that moment, his words cut through centuries of cultural arrogance, “Be silent! The Lord is One. The mother is one. The father is one. And reward is based on deeds.”

The room fell quiet. There was no lecture, no shouting — just this piercing truth.
That before God, status is not in skin or station, but in sincerity and service.

In a world that so easily ranks people by class, race, or role, the Imam (p) quietly tore down that wall and rebuilt it with compassion.

Kindness that Shattered Hatered

The sun hung low in the sky as a weary traveler arrived in Madinah. He was a man from Syria, his mind filled with the words of Mu’awiyah, who had painted a dark picture of Imam Hassan (p) and his family. Fueled by this false image, the man sought out the grandson of the Prophet (pbhu&hp), ready to confront him.

Spotting Imam Hassan (p) in the streets, the Syrian man didn’t hold back. With anger in his voice, he hurled insults and accusations, his words sharp like daggers. The people of Madinah turned to see the scene unfold, expecting Imam Hassan (p) to respond in kind. But the Imam remained calm, his expression soft, his eyes filled with understanding rather than anger.

When the man finally paused, catching his breath, Imam Hassan (p) smiled gently and said, “O man, you seem like a stranger here. If you are in need, we will provide for you. If you are hungry, we will feed you. If you need shelter, we will offer you a place to stay.”

The Syrian was stunned. He had expected retaliation, maybe even punishment. But here was the very man he had been taught to despise, offering him kindness instead of hostility. His heart trembled, his anger melted away, and his eyes filled with tears.

With a voice now broken with regret, he said, “I bear witness that you are truly the grandson of the Prophet (pbuh&hp). They had lied to us about you.”

From that moment, he became one of Imam Hassan’s (p) devoted followers, forever changed by the warmth and wisdom of the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh&hp).

Understanding Imam Mahdi (p) and Our Role in His Mission

As Muslims, we must know and follow the imam of our time, Imam Mahdi (p). The Holy Prophet (pbuh&hp) is reported to have said, “One who dies but does not know the imam of his time has died on the religion of ignorance.”1

Who is Imam al-Mahdi (p)?

Imam Mahdi (p), according to many reports, was born on the 15th of Shaban 255 AH/869 CE in Samarra, Iraq, and is the son of Imam Hasan ibn Ali Al-Askari (p), the 11th Imam. At the age of five, he entered into occultation after the passing of his father on 8 Rabi al-Awwal. His occultation began with a minor phase lasting approximately seventy years, followed by the major occultation “which continues till today and whose duration is known only to God.

Imam Mahdi (p) is known by several titles2, each reflecting his grand stature:

The Holy Prophet (phuh&hp) is reported to have said, “Al-Mahdi is from my children, his name is [like] my name, his agnomen is [like] my agnomen. He is the most similar to me in my appearance and my character.”3

Imam al-Baqir (p) is also reported to have narrated from his father as saying that Imam Ali (p) once said on the pulpit, “From my progeny at the end of time, a man will appear, whose face is reddish-white, whose chest is broad, with strong shoulders and two moles on his back: one with the color of his skin and the other like that of the Prophet.”4

While different reports suggest that the mother of the Imam, Lady Narjis, is either a Roman prisoner or a north African bondswoman, stronger reports suggest the latter. It is reported to have been narrated by Yazeed al-Kunaasee who said, “I heard Abaa Jafar Muhammad (p), he said: ‘Verily, the master of this affair in him is the resemblance of Yusuf (p), he is the son of a black bondswoman, and God will reform his affair in one night.”’5

Does Imam Mahdi (p) have children?

Some have referred to narrations and hadith to speculate about the potential wives and children of Imam al-Mahdi (p). However, the sources are regarded as weak and untrustworthy. The fact is that the personal details of the Awaited Savior have not been revealed to us, and thus any claims of marital or familial connection to the Imam should be dismissed.

Who is Imam Mahdi (p) according to the Quran?

Many seek to understand who Imam Mahdi (p) is according to the Quran. While direct references to Imam Mahdi (p) are not found in the Quran, there exist verses that, according to hadith from the Ahl al-Bayt, can be applied to him (p). There are certain verses which seemingly allude to his reappearance, uprising, occultation, and leadership.

One such verse is where God states, “You will not attain virtue until you spend what you love” (Quran 3:92). It is reported that Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (p) says, “It (i.e., spending of good) is the annual connection to the Imam, however much it may be, and I want for you to be purified by it.”6 We must fulfill our requirement by paying Khums and giving alms on his behalf.

In another verse, God states, “Wherever you are, God will bring you all together”(Quran 2:148). It is reported that Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (p) said this verse pertains to the companions of Imam Mahdi (p).7

It is also reported that Imam al-Baqir (p) further elaborated that it refers specifically to the 313 companions who will swiftly gather around Imam al-Mahdi (p) and pledge their allegiance to him in an instant.8 Some narrations say that when he reappears, he will recite verse 86 from Chapter 11 of the Holy Quran, which says “I am Baqiyyatu Allah and his vicegerent.”9

Another significant Quranic reference is where God mentions that “He will certainly help those who, if given power in the land, will worship God through prayer, pay the religious tax, enjoin others to do good and prevent them from committing evil. The consequence of all things is in the hands of God”(Quran 22:41). Imam Baqir is reported to have said that this verse describes the companions of Imam Mahdi (p). Through them, Imam Mahdi (p) will establish Islam globally, ending injustice and oppression.10

In conclusion, while Imam Mahdi (p) is not directly mentioned in the Quran, there are several verses that, according to interpretations from the Ahl al-Bayt, allude to his awaited appearance and mission. The verses discussed provide glimpses into the role and significance of Imam Mahdi (p) in establishing justice and guiding humanity towards righteousness.

When will Imam Mahdi (p) come?

Many have asked, when will Imam Mahdi (p) come? While we do not know the exact date, and traditions even point to the fact that we have been forbidden from suggesting we know the exact date and time of Imam Mahdi’s arrival, there are various signs reported in the traditions of Prophet Muhammad and the Imams that would indicate is imminent return.” Here are three of them:

Devastating Wars

A destructive force led by a bloodthirsty man named al-Sufyani will emerge in the Levant in the month of Rajab. He will send an army to Iraq, which will return after killing and causing great destruction. He will send another army to -Madīnah, but God will annihilate them between Mecca and Madinah.11

Chaos, Conflict, Despair, and Frustration

The world will witness immense chaos and extreme differences between people. It will even envelope the believers to the extent that they will curse and disrespect each other. Moreover, a state of despair about the savior’s reappearance will become widespread, and people will say that he has died or been killed. The reappearance will then be near.12

The Call Announcing His Reappearance

The angel Gabriel will call from the sky such that it will be heard by all people of the world in their own languages. This will occur before dawn on Friday the 23rd of the month of Ramadan. The angel Gabriel will declare, “O servant of God! Hear what I say. This is the Mahdi from the household of Muhammad emerging from the land of Mecca. Respond to [obey] him.”13

Where will Imam Mahdi (p) appear?

Many hadith and historical analyses have been done to understand and answer the question, where will Imam Mahdi (p) reappear? There is an overwhelming consensus that Imam Mahdi (p) will go towards the Kaaba and a voice will come from the sky letting everyone know that he has reappeared. He will then stand by Hajr al-Aswad, and call people toward faith and truth.14

How can I be in Imam Mahdi’s (p) Army?

To be a part of Imam Mahdi’s army, we must be true followers of Islam and the Ahl al-Bayt. One internal way to prepare is to reform ourselves. Imam Mahdi’s mission is to bring justice to the world by reforming it. It is said that “The slogan on al-Mahdi’s flag is al-bay‘atu lillah ( allegiance belongs to God).”15 In this way we need to evaluate our lives, do we have this outlook on life? Do our actions truly reflect devotion to God, or do we serve ourselves? To join Imam Mahdi’s (p) army, we will need to live by his slogan. During his occultation, let us reflect and refine our intentions. This ensures we stand ready, hearts aligned with his cause, when he calls.

Importance of Knowing Imam Mahdi (p)

In conclusion, understanding Imam Mahdi (p) is essential for every Muslim, as he symbolizes ultimate guidance and justice in Islam. Signs of his reappearance, such as devastating wars, global chaos, and a divine call, remind us to stay alert and spiritually prepared. By reforming ourselves and living with strong faith and devotion, we can aim to be part of Imam Mahdi’s (p) army, helping him bring justice and peace to the world. As we await his arrival, we must remain strong in our beliefs and be ready to serve the Imam of our time when the time comes.

Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, is the 5th of Shaban 1446 A.H. which marks the birth anniversary of Imam Ali ibn al-Hussain (p).

The Legacy Written in Prostration

Imam Zayn al-Abidin (p), also known as Sayyid al-Sajideen (The Master of the Prostrators) was known for his intense devotion to worship and his deep spiritual supplications, many of which are preserved in Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya. It is narrated that he would spend long hours in prayer, crying in humility before God. One famous narration states that whenever he performed ablution (wudu), his face would turn pale, and when asked about it, he would reply, “Do you not know before Whom I am about to stand?”

His nights were spent in prolonged prostrations, and his days in fasting, remembrance, and supplications. Even in times of difficulty, such as his captivity after the tragedy of Karbala, he remained steadfast in worship.

The Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya: The Psalms of Islam

One of the greatest legacies of Imam Zayn al-Abidin (p) is the Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya, a collection of supplications and whispered prayers that reflect the deepest levels of spirituality, ethics, and social justice. It covers,
-Social and political prayers (supplications for parents, neighbors, leaders, and the oppressed)
-Supplications for daily needs (thanking God, seeking forgiveness, asking for sustenance)
-Deep theological reflections (understanding divine justice, mercy, and predestination)
-Moral guidance (humility, patience, gratitude, reliance on God)

Through his worship and supplications, Imam Zayn al-Abidin preserved the spiritual and moral message of Islam in a time when the Umayyad rulers suppressed the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (p). His silent revolution through worship continues to inspire generations of believers.
