The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Monday, December 22nd, 2025, will be the first day of the month of Rajab, 1447 A.H. for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from different regions of North America.

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Sunday, November 23rd, 2025, will be the first day of the month of Jumada al-Akhira, 1447 A.H., for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Friday, November 21st, 2025, until midnight Eastern time, in any region south of the United States. Therefore, Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, will be the last day of Jumada al-Ula, 1447 A.H.

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

بيان تمهيدي بخصوص توقّعات الأوّل من شهر محرّم الحرام لعام ١٤٤٧

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America would like to inform you that the astronomical calculations regarding the crescent moon’s position for the sacred month of Muharram indicate that the first day of the month of Muharram will fall on Friday, June 27, 2025, God willing.

However, there is a low possibility of the crescent being visible on the western coast of the United States on Wednesday, and if the sighting is confirmed, Thursday, June 26, 2025, would mark the first day of Muharram for the western coast and its neighboring regions only.

We kindly ask the believers to await the official statement from the Moon-Sighting Committee, which will be issued late on Wednesday evening. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

We ask God Almighty for success in commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (p) and hastening the return of our master, Imam Mahdi (p).
